Hello to everyone,
I was born in Foggia 37 years ago and my father made me a present of my first canary when I was 5.
I have been breeding glosters since 1989, when I bought my first canaries from Mr A. Passeri, a famous breeder and international judge of posture canaries and, above all, a great friend.
In time, I have put blood lines of Belgian and English breeders to attempt to create a canary as balanced as possible and, as each line presents some defects due to each breeder selective orientation, it’s therefore necessary hard work and big patience to obtain balanced glosters.
Breeding gloster is real skill, because it’s very hard to concentrate in a canary a 30mm diamter head standing (without neck) on three-finger shoulders, the whole in a 11 cm size. On the other hard, to widen tufts, it’s necessary to lenghten and widen the plumage and, consequently, the canary becames bigges on the whole and, above all, lounges in size.
Best glosters breeders efforts consist in the attempt to produce balanced canaries, trying the right compromise between trasversal diameters (shoulders-size) that must be as nearer as possible. The objectives to obtain a canary as ‘square’ as possible in proportions.
What many years ago was for me only a hobby, it’s today became a real ‘illness’. In fact, the necessity of keeping 7-8 blood lines as separated as possible from each other ( although breeding consanguineity), has led me to have 120-130 couples breeding with a year production of about 500 canaries and 4-5 working hours a day.
Most of my glosters are self or T.p.d. (three parts dark), but I have also many variegated, cinnamon, blue and some yellow (that I insert in various lines if necessary, to attempt to solve plumage and base colour problems, to be punctually faced every year).
I am used to eliminate from my breeding young canaries presenting ‘lumps’, in order to attempt to get under greatest control this big existing problem (Don’t play ostrich, burjing our heads under the sand).
In time, I have obtained good show results winning 6 ITALIAN EXHIBITIONS, 7 TIMES REGGIO EMILIA INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITIONS, and winning 2 BRONZE MEDALS AT WORLD EXHIBITIONS.
The way to obtain the gloster I have in my mind is long and hard, but trying is not expansive…and it’s a good way to spend time!
